This is Coco, our 6-month old Chocolate Lab. She was diagnosed with Neospora, a rare and potentially fatal parasite of dogs and other animals. This disease is more prevalent in cattle and sheep in Europe. Neospora is often misdiagnosed as Toxoplasmosis. There has only been a little over 100 dogs in the world diagnosed with Neospora. Because this disease has only been recognized only recently, little is known of treatment in naturally infected dogs.

Coco was diagnosed at the University of Florida Veterinary School in November 1997. She wasn't even walking then because this disease caused her to have partial rear limb paralysis and stiffening. She has been slowly getting better each day, although some days were harder than others were. Her last appointment about two weeks ago was a great accomplishment for her (and us)...she walked in on a leash for the first time instead of someone carrying her. She still has stiffening in her right rear limb, but she is walking fine and even running.

We would like to send a sincere "Thank You" to the entire staff at AHC, especially Dr. Richards for all of his help, dedication and encouragement.
