Fred is the only child of Wanda and Jim. When Fred came to live with them, they had another cat named Sam. Due to certain circumstances, Sam had to go live with someone else and Fred became top cat of the household. When Sam came to sleep over one weekend, Wanda just knew they would be glad to see each other. But she had to keep them in separate rooms all weekend due to their hissing and spitting at each other like they had been life long enemies.
