Dr. Richards was born in Bristol, Tennessee and moved to Valdosta with his
family when he was 7 years old. After attending Valdosta High School, Abraham
Baldwin College, and the University of Georgia, he received his degree in veterinary
medicine in 1972.
Dr. Richards is active in many veterinary organizations and has held offices in most of them. During 1994, he received two prestigious awards. The University of Georgia veterinary fraternity bestowed the A.M. Mills Award for outstanding contributions to the Veterinary Profession. The Veterinary Hospital Manager's Association gave him the coveted Veterinary Hospital Manager of the Year Award. Also during 1994, Dr. Richards was chosen to have one of the 54 most successful practices in the country and participated in a lengthy study of what makes veterinary practices successful. In 1995 Dr. Richards and the staff were featured in a national veterinary publication as only one of ten Practice of Excellence Award winners. Animal Health Center is the only American Animal Hospital accredited member within 60 miles of the Valdosta area that has been given a four year certification after an inspection by consultants of the association. Dr. Richards has had many articles published in veterinary publications and has a special interest in preventative health care, dentistry, and internal medicine.
The Richards family includes Connie, his wife, and two sons, Tom and Taylor.
They attend the First United Methodist Church. The Richards live on a farm with
2 dogs and 6 cats. In the community Dr. Richards has participated as a teacher
for the SCOPE program at Valdosta State University, is a member of the Chamber
of Commerce, a Charter Director of the Valdosta Bank and Trust, on the Board
of Trustees for Valdosta Technical Institute, a member of the Lowndes County
Humane Society, and gives career presentations at local schools.
